This month Dr. Networking interviewed one of our long-time clients, Frederick Schilling, CEO of Big Tree Farms, which has been in business for six years.

Dr. Networking: Thanks for talking with us today, Frederick.

Frederick Schilling: It’s my pleasure.

DN: I think many locals don’t know about your business, and it is fascinating! Please enlighten our readers about your business’s incredible story.

FS: What started out as a small organic farming operation on Bali has evolved into Indonesia’s largest organic food company. We operate SE Asia’s largest organic and fair-trade integrated coconut supply chain, working directly with fourteen thousand farmers across all our ingredients. Our corporate mission is to drive beneficial change through the creation of innovative natural foods that support longevity of health, thriving environments, and fair and transparent economies for our customers, our farmers, and our employees.

DN: I am just amazed at how much you positively impact so many people in so many ways! Please tell us a little about what Big Tree Farms offers.

FS: We are the pioneers of coconut sweeteners and cold-processed cacao products. Coconut sweeteners are made from the fresh flower blossom nectar of the coconut tree and have a history over five thousand years old. The nectar is simply collected and boiled—that’s it.

The benefits of coconut sweeteners over other sweeteners, such as cane sugar, honey, agave, and maple syrup, are that coconut sweeteners are lower on the glycemic index, contain more nutrients, and are considered the most sustainable sweetener in the world.

Our cold-processed cacao products have an antioxidant level two and a half times higher than standard cacao products due to not using high heat during the processing, as high temperatures greatly reduce the nutrient content. Not only do our cacao products have a much higher nutrient content than other brands, the flavor is also extremely rich and complex.

DN: I understand you put great emphasis on sustainability. Please give us an example.

FS: As a testament to our commitment to sustainability, we built our headquarters on Bali completely out of bamboo, which at the time of completion in 2011 was the world’s largest bamboo structure. It’s truly an amazing feat of architecture and is open to tours, should anyone be visiting Bali.

DN: With a business across the ocean and your office in the Rogue Valley, I imagine your computer system is vital to your company. How long have you been using Dr. Networking’s services?

FS: I have been a client for more than thirteen years. I used Dr. Networking’s services at my old company, Dagoba Chocolate. Because of the trust I have in Dr. Networking and the level of service provided, there really was no decision to be made when choosing whom to use in my current company.
